TOPIC FORM - GENERAL SERVICE CONFERENCE 2009

THEME:  IS YOUR GROUP IN THE LOOP?

CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF TOPICS IS FRIDAY 26^th JUNE 2009

That the procedure documents for Conference Committees be amended to include the sentence “Any Topic which contravenes any one of the Twelve Traditions must be rejected by the members of the Conference Committee.”

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND OR REASON FOR THE TOPIC?:

As the procedures document is read at the start of each committee’s session it is important that each committee be reminded that the Australian General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous are the guardian’s of the Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous.

This is such an important point it should not be assumed to be known, but emphasised so it is known and this is the best place for this to happen.

CONFERENCE CHARTER AUSTRALIAN SECTION

1. Purpose:

The Australian General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous is a guardian of the

World Services and of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Conference shall be a service body only; never a government for Alcoholics Anonymous. 

HOW WILL THE FELLOWSHIP OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS BENEFIT FROM THIS SUGGESTION?  

The conference as Guardians of the Traditions will show the fellowship how important that role is to them and help the fellowship understand the importance of the Conferences roll as Guardians of the Traditions. 

WHAT ARE THE ESTIMATED COSTS OF IMPLEMENTING THIS SUGGESTION?
